As human beings Everything we do is habit forming dnd those habits also includes hitting the snooze button in the morning instead of getting up and going to the gym or doing some kind of mortine routine that will help you start of the day in a productive way.
It includes.sitting on the coach binge watching netflix when you know you should be spending a few extra hours on your goals.
It includes eating unhealthy food when you tell yourself you want to change the way you look and become fit.
And these habits are way easier to develop because it doesn’t really take any effort but are the very habits keeping us stuck and stopping us from makes our goals a reality.
But on the same note;
Do you know what else if habit forming?
Discipling yourself to get things done.
Setting your alarm and actually getting up
Telling yourself your going to eat healthy and actually doing what you say.
Getting involved in your business each and every single day when the temptation is so stong to take a day off and do something that is not productive.
The key to becoming good at anything Is to start the process of forming some good habits that replace those easier habits getting in the way.
Habits that are in alignment with what you tell yourself you want to achieve.
It's one things telling yourself a nice story that your going to do something. but its another to actually take the action that will make it happen.
I remember seeing a quote on line that said something like;
"Don't tell the world what your going to do, show them first though your actions,"
And to do that you must form good habits.
Being successful at anything in life can be a hard process, but it can be a very simple process when you have the right systems in place and you work those systems everyday
and adjust accordingly as you go along.
You must develop good habits.
My definition of a habit is this:
"A habit is doing something for the first time and then repeating that over and over until it everntually runs automatically."
If I want to become a good doctor or lawyer or bartender or bus driver for instance.
No matter what the profession may be, even those the jobs are all different, the process is exactly the same.
I do that job for the first time and then I practicise it over and over and depending on my willingness and desire for that job, eventually I will become good at it.
The process of doing the job becomes easier as I form good habits.
If I want to become good at any kind of sport, even if I have never played that sport before.
Whether its football, cricket, martial arts, rugby, tennis, swimming.
All the sports and different and the rules are different in each sport.
But the process is exactly the same.
I go and practice it for the first time. I practice it again and again and as I become better at it I form good habits-It becomes automatic.
The same applies to business and entrepreneurship.
I decide what I want!
I design a gameplan!
I break that plan into manageable chunks, and I decide what I need to do first to get started.
And then I go and do it.
I don't talk about it.
Or draw a nice chart with fancy colours so I feel good.
I get up off my ass and go do it for the first time and then I repeat and get better as I move forward.
Sometimes that first step is getting out of bed when the alarm clock goes off.
Sometimes that first step is getting up off that couch and going to the gym, even when you don’t feel like it. So that your developing your physical healthy that will help you in your daily activities.
Sometimes that first step is lifting that phone to make your first sales call when you feel anxious and everything inside of you is telling you no.
No matter how long you have been running an old habit you can develop a brand new habit by doing something for the very first time and working toward that consistently until you form a brand new habit.
If you have read some of my blog posts before you will see that a common theme is, discipline
Because it is uptmost importance and its the common ingredient that most people tend to avoid.
They come up with a list of wonderful reason why they are not achieving their goals.
But in realty the only reason you don’t achieve your goal is because of yourself.
And in most cases it s discipline issue.
Nothing else.
But a lot of people don’t want to hear that because that means they have to take responsibility and that feels uncomfortable.
The most successful business professionals in life are super disciplined.
The greatest sports people in the world and super disciplined.
The richest people in the world are super disciplined.
But most people are jujst dabblers.
They try something a few times and if it doesn’t work and then they come up with a million reasons why it's not their fault.
The excuses book comes out and they regurgitate or recite a host of wonderful reason why that goal just wasnt possible.
Successful people don’t make excuses.
Everything is their fault.
And everything can be changed.
And a huge percentage of their success is down to good workable productive habits.
The main difference between successful people and the reason of society, Is rarely down to genetics or talent. It's mostly down the difference in their habits.
Successful people develop good habits and unsuccessful people develop bad habits.
And both live by those habits on a daily basis.
But the interesting thing is...
Successful people will also tell you that there was a time when they lived by those bad habits but made the decision to do what it took to discipline themselves to develop the good habits that got them to where they wanted to be in life.
So let me ask you a question...
Take one thing in your life that you would like to change and ask yourself,
“What incredible stupid things am i doing every day that is preventing me from reaching this goal."
"What bad habits have I developed."
Then write down what you would need to do on a daily basis instead and then go do that for the first time.
Exercise your will and go take action and start the process of developing new empowering habits that will make that idea in your mind a reality.
